Authors say....

I don't have a post on writing today. Join me next Friday and I will have something for you. In the meantime, here are a few writers' quotes to ponder.

Substitute "damn" every time you're inclined to write "very;" your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be. ~Mark Twain

I'm not a very good writer, but I'm an excellent rewriter. ~James Michener

The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. ~Mark Twain

Be obscure clearly. ~E.B. White (one of my favs)

If I don't write to empty my mind, I go mad. ~Lord Byron (Is this just for me?)

Writing is both mask and unveiling. ~E.B. White

The best style is the style you don't notice. ~Somerset Maugham

If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. ~Toni Morrison

I love the Byron quote...having a novel in my brain keeps other important things from getting in. That's why we write.

Oh, they're all so good. I'm totally copying them! I hear that Tony Morrison message in my head all the time. I'm working on the play I've always wanted to see performed. Thank!

Oh, one more: If you wish to be a writer, WRITE!

Love the quotes Mary. My favorite?

Writing is both mask and unveiling. ~E.B. White

I'm thinking, it might be a good practice, whenever a piece of writing is not coming together as clearly and quickly as I'd like, to ask myself what I am masking and/or need to unveil? I just might find the solution in the answer.
