Faith and Obedience

What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'

" 'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

"Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.

"Which of the two did what his father wanted?"

"The first," they answered.

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. (Matthew 21:28-32, NIV)

JW's thoughts:

I believe there are times to quit and times we need to finish, you know--stay the course. When my kids wanted to try new things: sports, dance, karate--I let them. But, I had one pretty solid rule. If they signed up for something, they had to follow through until the season or session ended. In other words, they weren't allowed to quit in the middle of  their new venture.  I wanted my children to be dependable, and I didn't want them to quit at a drop of a hat.

In realty, God doesn't need help. And yet, he...wants our help. We are called to be his workers (1 Corinthians 3:9). Being faithful to God and turning that faithfulness into obedience pleases our Heavenly Father. We can just have good intentions or we can follow through and be a part of God's plan.

Are we people with only good intentions or are we people who follow through?  Something to think about.

Interesting thoughts here. Follow through is so important, the only place of substance. Thanks for these reflections.

A great reminder. It is easier sometimes to quit, but unless you follow through you'll never know what you're missing at the end.

Thanks for the inspiration.

You're a good mom. Follow through unless it kills you!

Good tips, I'll have to keep that in mind once my little guys get bigger.

Oh yes, the follow through...most the time, I do, but there is that occasional thing that slips through. I do what I can and try to only commit to the important things in life.

My oldest son always argued but complied, the next (daughter) agreed but did nothing and the third said little and was unpredictable (would she or wouldn't she?). The fourth does as he is asked, but only what he is asked. Thank God, they've grown up, but aren't we just like that? The Lord loves a cheerful doer.
