Stormy Weather

Jesus Calms a Storm

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
(Mark 4:35-41, NIV)

JW's thoughts:
Spring and summer brings stormy weather to MO. The fact is we have our share of tornadoes and straight line winds. One thing I know about a "good" storm is it creates fear.

We also experience various storms in our own lives.

I like being in control, and, yet I am rarely in complete control of anything. When I was led to this scripture this week, I knew God was telling me something. He knew I had decisions to make. He knows how fear sets the stage for my decision making.

How often do we say, Jesus wake up and take care of me?  Where are you? I am afraid. Don't you care? Eventually in his timing, he will say with authority to our storms, "Quiet! Be still!"

As the song says, "Sometimes he calms the storm and other times he calms the storm in me."

Prayers please for:

-An entire family who lost their 11 year old boy to cancer.

-Karen whose middle brother fell from a ladder last week, fractured his skull and died and whose oldest brother (I just found out) died last June.

Those storms do come at us from both nature and within. A great reminder on this day (and everyday).

These families that you've shared will be in my thoughts and prayers, as well you my friend. Hope you have a peaceful day.

When there aren't any answers to *why* bad things happen, it's good to refer to passages like the one you referred to. Best wishes with your decision making and I'll keep the families in my prayers...

Jesus can calm any storm, literally or figuratively. He is my rock, what I cling to!

I will pray for those families and the tragedies they have suffered. May God be a comfort to them.

Also, please pray for the elderly couple Teresa that lived out by Bennett Springs Park that was brutally murdered in their home. They had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary, and a man that had been more in jail than out and running from the law (and shouldn't of been released!) did this to them. Pray for that family and their loss!

Your prayer list makes me ashamed of my ungratefullness.

I will say prayers for them.
The physical storm might not subside, but He knows how to calm the inner storm so we have the strength to face the outer.

And maybe leading you to this scripture was not just for you? A personal touching post for me, thank you.

I will extend prayers.

Great reminder!
I always have been afraid of "storms" that come from within rather than those that come from nature.
I'm so sad for those families you are referring to.
They will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,
B xx

My thoughts and prayers out to those you mentioned. Storms do come, and riding the waves is hard when fear grips our heart. I also like to try to remember this scripture when those times happen. Have faith, even when the tide feels like it will bowl over us. God always comes through in His way, in the way He knows is best for us. Thanks for the reminder.

Whatever your decision is I hope you hear that small, quiet voice guiding you today. Thank you for this good reminder. It always helps when I feel fearful to stop and remember He is there for me.

My God is a rock in a weary land. Blessings on your decisions and showing love to those who are hurting.
I went through a tornado at the young chicklett age of five and am to this day scared to death of storms. I have found myself alone, crouched down in my 'safe' corner prayin' hard and reminding God He can calm the storm. Like He needs reminding! Heeehehehehe...He IS our rock.

May your day be calm and filled with blessings!
