The Branch Attached

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15 1-8 (NIV)

JW thinks we get distracted by life and forget that we were created for God’s purpose. Away from him, we become a detached branch where there is no growth and eventual spiritual death. Attached to God, we realize our purpose. We become someone out of a mundane world--with God purpose. Can you believe it? The Great Holy God of heaven and earth has given you (and me) purpose. By the way, our perceived purpose may not be aligned with God’s ultimate plan—something to think about.

So true. Thanks for this reminder today.

In my new position, there have been many times in the past 2 weeks that I've found myself doubting my abilities or feeling overwhelmed by all the things that are expected of me. But then I stop and remember...I am a child of God and He will enable me to do his work. I try to see things from a spiritual realm instead of a humanly realm. I know He will guide me and lead me...I just have to remember to turn to him and not just rely on myself.

Hope your new job is going well too!

Very true! We start living for ourselves and not God.
