Monday's Random Thoughts

This is what I've been up to.

On Writing:
1.      I’m working on a story for the Highlights Fiction Contest. It needs to be a children’s story influenced by an unusual news item. Due January 30. Go here to read more about it.
2.      I’m fine tuning two shorts to go out.
3.      Still working on a Christmas story. Its working title is Three Miracles. But that sounds lame—so I’m not sure.
On Reading
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
At the Movies
I got out of the house this weekend and went to see Joyful Noise with Dolly Pardon and Queen Latifah. I didn't go to see it with those two, they were in it. Just wanted to make that clear.
It was a fun movie and (I wasn’t expecting it) had a spiritual tone. It had lots of humor, romance, disappointment, tense moments and happy endings. Oh and it’s totally a musical, but I like musicals. For me, some of the storyline was lame, but I enjoyed it.
On Music
If you haven’t been there yet, I’ve put up something new at The Ruralhood, a post titled Music Traditions in the Ozarks.
Random Thoughts
Dear Store Cashiers, I like to use cash to purchase. It’s my thing—helps me see where my money goes. It hurts my feelings when you hold my bills up to the light to see if they’re real. I promise—they’re real. And why aren’t you holding up the new coins, that I gave you, to the light to see if they are real? Huh?
Dear Bearer of Gossip, if you’re going to talk about someone, do not stand with your back to the door. The subject of your news might come in and hear you. Ok, they did hear you.
Dear Diverticulitis, Ouch. Please, go away. Don’t come back another day. Leave now. Your taxi’s waiting.
Dear Humongous Store, you might think by moving your inventory around that it will cause the consumer to buy things they didn’t intend to buy, but this only causes me to give up and go home. Now what do you think about that? You made me tired. I went home. Now you can’t hold my thousand dollar bill up to the light.
Dear Beautiful Stray Cat, if you want me to sneak around and feed you, you must not antagonized Kiki Dee. She’s Queen Bee. I’m sure you’ve heard that she rules? She will make you go away, so be nice. I’m just saying.
Love, JW
Those are my random thoughts, what’s yours?

Good luck with your writing! Sounds like you've set yourself some really clear targets (something that always helps me make goals).

And too funny about your random thoughts! Holding change up to the light? Really? Wow!

What I like about the idea of working on a Christmas story is that it keeps the wonder of Christmas with you well beyond the holidays. So on that note, Merry Christmas and Happy Writing :)

I'm thinking...why do I never look for short story writing contests? I can do those...sometimes...I think...maybe...

I think it is sad to live in a world where money has to be checked but it is a rule for us to do so. It is equally vexing to show double ids and have a manager to sign off on a check with a mile long line behind you. The honest suffer indignities because of the bad guys!

I think it's funny that a gossiper was over heard...hope they know they got caught, maybe it will teach them a lesson or two.

I, too, agree about the store...don't move the stuff!!!! I really dislike backtracking a mile to find an item I missed...one that I would not have missed until they moved it!

Have a fantastic day!

I seem to have random thoughts like that as well...first off, I love musicals which is exactly why I want to go see the movie with Dolly Parton...she is an awesome singer!
Good Luck on your stories...just a word to thought; perhaps you need to take your critique hat off while you are writing to totally transpire what is in your mind and heart...

Glad to hear you're not making hundred dollar bills in your basement!
You feed that stray cat, then he's no longer a stray - he's yours!

When I worked in retail we had a counterfeit detection marker and swiped big bills with it. If there was no mark it was real, a black mark then a fake. I never had to deal with a black mark, thank goodness.

I loved The Graveyard Book! It was so creative. I hope you're enjoying it!

Good luck with all your writing, Teresa!
Good to hear your pushin' ahead in your writing sweetie, best of luck to ya!

I do believe ya got yourself a cat there woman! Heeehehehe!

Have a glorious day sweetie!!!

I hope your story writing has lots of success. You are working on a lot of stories.

It bothers me too when the cashiers check my money but I know down here in Mexico, it's common to use counterfeit.

I love how you write to so many things. I should do that.

What's up with me?

Dear television, please stop distracting me from my writing. I feel so good when I reach my goal.

I would like to read about Three Miracles. I'm ready for one. Keep writing. I agree that when stores change things around, it is annoying. The reason I keep going back there is because I know where to find what I need. I hate wandering around confused and disoriented.
Have a great week!

Hi Teresa .. hope your dreaded D is easing .. but in the meantime you haven't lost your sense of humour ...

though those two are linked aren't they .... the dreaded D and Humour/Humor ... the term deriving from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humors control human health and emotion ...?!

Good to see you and now my own comment has made me laugh - oh dear .. cheers and have a good weekend this one around .. Hilary

This is so funny. I'm so with you on the giant store moving merchandise around. I really liked The Graveyard Book. Did you? And I want to see that movie, more now than before.
