WORDS

Words can make or break a relationship. Words can crush. They are powerful, but become weak when tossed out without meaning. With words our lips can spew love and hate. With the same mouth we build up and tear down.
“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” James 3:9-10 (NIV)
Our words may change with mood and circumstances. The words of humankind are not always reliable.
But, God’s word is dependable. His word is a powerful tool.
"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)
Believe it or not, we are known for our choice and use of words. Are our words encouraging? Are they complaining? Harsh or kind? And, we are held accountable for what we say to others.
We represent God and His Word.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4: 12-13 (NIV)
Words are a powerful tool. We need to use words wisely.

Wonderful post, especially today because I'm going to be a godmother! My best friend's son is being baptized. This is a great reminder to fill up my godson's heart and mind with encouraging words, and to follow up on that by being a good role model who is thoughtful in my actions, too.

Hope you're having a great weekend, Teresa!

Yes, "Words are a powerful tool." This needs to be taught in primary school...with great emphasis on the written word, especially those digitally shared. Sometimes when I read posts on social-networking sites, I cringe. I am sure that some people really don't see the enormity of the words they are sharing when they click to share post. And who knows how long our words will live on? :-) Wonderful post; nice how you quoted scripture throughout.

I found my way here through the A-to-Z blog list. :-) Nice to "meet" you.

With words God formed the words. And God said let there be light. Now that's power!

Yes. I believe it. I've experienced it. Words do make or break a relationship. Thank you for your words today.
Absolutely. We must remember to engage our brains before we open our mouths! :o)

Our words are important.

God bless and have a glorious week!
