A Contented Life

“…be content with what you have” is easier said than lived.”  When we become convinced that we are not content, we stray from the people we love, buy things we don’t need and become distracted from the life God has planned for us.

Sometimes we stand in the middle of our blessings and can’t see them, because our eyes are focused on shinier things and greener pastures, in the distance.

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrew 13: 5-6

The influence of desire is easier to manage when we live a Christ centered life. Contentment comes from focusing on what we have and not on what we lack.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6: 19-21

Being content with who we are and what we possess doesn’t mean we should stop dreaming or setting and reaching goals. Being content involves actively recognizing and being thankful for our blessings. This becomes our place of contentment.

Gratitude is an excellent path for contentment :) I especially appreciate the idea to live a life free from the love of money!

Wonderful Sunday post! Thank you :)
Because if we aren't happy with where we are now, we won't be happy with more, either.

Teresa, so true that we sometimes get so caught up in looking over the fence that we miss seeing our blessings.
