THE BOYS OF MY YOUTH

Y is for:

THE BOYS OF MY YOUTH by Jo Ann Beard

Last year, I bought a book of short stories by Jo Ann Beard titled THE BOYS OF MY YOUTH. After writing THE WAITING SUMMER, for a past A-Z, someone mentioned that I might enjoy her writing. There's a “sense of place” either actual place or character place that speaks to me. I like that.

These lines are from the chapter titled, Behind the Screen

First Line: I’m looking at the backs of their heads.

End line: “Bath”, she says.

That someone told me my stories reminded her of Beard's writing, while another said I reminded her of Alice Munro's writing. At the time, I am embarrassed to say that I had not read these wonderful writers. They are a big deal!

Don't worry, I only felt flattered for a brief moment, then reality told me that the ladies must have been drinking too much good wine that day to compare me to THOSE fine writers OR perhaps they weren't wearing their reading glasses.

I know for a fact, that blurred vision changes words on a page-big time.

One more day, A-Z Bloggers and readers!

I haven't read either of those authors, either. I have read your fine work, though, and keep coming back for more!
Come on - you're that good!

I haven't read this one either. And don't be afraid to accept compliments like that on your writing!

That's an interesting line to end a book.

Wine or not, sure a good stroke to the ego
Others like your writing because it IS good. And Chrys is right -- it is an odd way to end a book! :-)

Always nice to have one's work appreciated! Always nice to have a glass of Merlot!

Don't do yourself down! You're totally worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as them.
Hi Teresa - if someone appreciates your work - that's fantastic and so good to know - I've just checked on Jo Ann Beard .. she does sound an interesting writer, while Alice Munro has hit the headlines in the last few years ... I have some reading to do sometime ...

I'm so pleased you were added into their category of these fine women - believe in yourself ... good luck and write more .. cheers Hilary
