A philosophical question for you…

I waited all of April to ask you this important question: Are things that get stuck in your head better or worse than things that get stuck on your shoe?

Head stuck:

  • Song lyrics from grade school: Hon.es.ty no matter what the consequences be, it's the very best pol.i.cy. (I still hate that song.)
  • Phrases or quotes: Awesome possum, Keep calm and carry on.
  • Negative opinions.
  • The one awkward thing that happened in the past that you think is forgotten, then someone brings it up and now it's stuck in your head all over again.

Shoe stuck:
  • Worms that you can't see in the night and you step on.
  • Used Gum
  • Poo
  • Tar
  • Toilet paper
What do you think? Which is worse, stuck in the head or stuck on the shoe?

Comments

No question. Things I step on can be washed, scrubbed or the shoe discarded.
There are things in my head I would LOVE to evict. And instead have to find a way to ignore them, or work around them. Some days a cheese grater for the mind would come in handy.
Great question! Things stuck in my head are worst. :) Although I hate stepping in poo.

No contest here. Things that get stuck in my head. I have learned that there are methods one might use to change the circuitry.
Things stuck in my head. They are harder to clean out than stuff stuck on my shoe.

Things in the head for sure, the shoe I can toss away or clean.

Yup, ear worms as they are called, are the worst. Particularly tunes which you find running through your head constantly. Much harder to get rid of.

Things that get stuck in our heads. They can haunt us and drive us crazy!

Initially this seemed like a no-brainer, I hate when things get stuck on my shoe. But looking at your list my thinking changed. Opinions, negative thinking, prejudices, anger, etc can stay with us for so long and affect everything we think, do, or say and that can lead to a lot of problems and internal agonizing. The shoe thing is a temporary annoyance that we get over rather quickly. I guess I'd rather deal with the shoe stuck thing if I have to choose one.

I guess I'll go with the stuck-in-your -head being the worst. I can always manually remove the offending TP, but not that nagging embarrassment that won't go away or those insipid lyrics.

You can remove the stuff from your shoe...
The things that stick in your head do so for an unresolved reason. They are nudges to grow in those areas ... or they can just be irritating as the lyrics of the song: IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL! :-)

I hate the embarrassing moments that get stuck in my head and loop around endlessly!!!

Shoes I can wipe off and move on. It might be nasty but thinking about it only last as long as it takes to clean it off. Things stuck in my head take days, sometimes a week to get rid of. I usually have to visualize clicking it off and turning the channel, so to speak.

Negative things said...some don't even phase me-- I make like a duck and shake the water (or comment) off my feathers. They don't even make it to my brain, really, to mull. Negatives also depend upon who saying them. A few of those I might mull over for a day and then it's gone.

Bad things--those I mull enough to make sense of, to the extent I can, and put it away. It will come back periodically and I work through the next level of it again and put it away. Bad things, once worked out, tend to become a passing thought now and then. I have a philosophy about things like that, "Either you deal with problems and emotions or they deal with you. When they're doing the dealing there is no control or healing. I'd rather deal and heal." It's worked well for me over the years.

Now, music can get stuck in my head for days and days. It might be a song that I like or one of those that I don't and are irritating--visual of turning it off--for the irritating ones--or changing the channel. I will tell you that I always have some sort of music playing in my head and always have had.

Shoe stuck is definitely better. It's easier to get rid of it.
Hi Teresa - shoe stuck ... because ear-worms (really things stuck in the head are ear-worms?!) will go away at some stage ... neither is great ...

Hmmm. It's a tossup. I can wipe off my shoes, but then if I don't know said poop or whatever is on the bottom of the shoes and I track it into the house, I'm not a very happy girl. On the other hand, things stuck in my head are just as hard to get rid of too, but I'm getting better the older I get to let things go. Interesting question! Have a nice Sunday!
