Success

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends.

To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded."   ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

My version might be this. In whatever I choose to do, create, pursue ... I won't put forth efforts that are just "good enough." Always I'll give my all, my best. Whatever comes from that is my success.

Love the quote. I read this at my nephew's funeral. We were the same age. he died at 54 with stomach cancer. He was the best school teacher and person in the world. Kind, sweet, giving etc. And he was a huge success in the eyes of many. Esp his students who came out in great numbers to see him off.
God bless Wayne "Tink" and you for giving me a wonderful memory of him on this dreary Ohio day.
Funny thing is, the quote hits it smack dab on the head about success. (Wayne's first name was Ralph!)

I love that one. I'm going to paste it in my files and onto my fridge.
I also like: I shall pass through this world but once. Any good
therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can
show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me
not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this
way again.”

Mahatma Gandhi
My version of success in found in the peaceful happiness of livin' each and every day the best that you can.

I'm talkin' really livin' here!

God bless and have yourself a magnificent day my friend!!! :o)

I think my version would be simple: Success is to be happy at what I'm doing and able to survive doing it.

Great, great quote.

I think success is feeling like you should be right where you are now, doing what you do, being who you are.

Sounds so simple, but how many people are truly happy with those three things right now?

THat's a great definition of success. For me, it's to have those who come after, especially those who were raised by me to be better off than myself and if I can make the lives of those around me better, than I should.
That IS the definition of success!

I mentor a little boy and last week I had told him that my one wish for him is that he is successful in life. He gave me this look that pretty much implied that he thought I was crazy. So sad.

I went on to explain my theory that people define success differently. He just needs to find his definition and I'm going to help him as long as he'll let me.

For me, success is being truly happy. My happiness is being with family, giving to others, having faith in God and living life to the fullest. Thanks for posting such a wonderful quote.

thanks so much for posting this.

success is based on personal beliefs, values and goals, but if you love what you're doing, you will be successful.

I could never say it as well as he.
Hi Teresa .. that's a wonderful quote isn't it - great we have it to remind us. I'd just add be peaceful, no rushing, be extraordinarily thankful for all you have, and accept all things will come - even the train will leave .. eventually an hour late as yesterday!

Cheers and have a blessed Sunday - Hilary
