This and That on Monday

Last week at home...
New appliances (cross your fingers) are still working. I’m no longer afraid of them and now feel comfortable approaching them cautiously for things like ice, water, food and clean dishes.
Thank you, dear God, we received rain two days in a row and may get showers today. I shivered last night while sleeping. The temperature went from 105ish to upper 70’s.  A cold front.  That’s what the weather peeps said that was rolling in: a cold front. The storm caused damage in Springfield.

The first day it rained, I swear to you, that I heard singing (imagine the munchkins in The WOO singing). That’s what it sounded like WOO Munchkin voices—singing…outside…in my yard.

My son turned 35 on July 4th. He's an amazing son. It’s high time he joined me in imaginary age reduction. Actually, I think we should all claim our real ages. Ahhhaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaa (That’s me bursting out in laughter.)

I’m writing on…

Daisy’s Dead (working title), a short story (mystery) headed for 3500 – 4000 words.

I went to see…
The Amazing Spider-Man with my daughter. It was her idea. She treated me. The movie saved most of the action for the end. I almost injured her when a mutant (thing), on the screen, scared me. I sort of jumped and hit her with a flailing hand.  Good movie though.

In other news…
In Name Only by author Carol Kilgore is being released tomorrow. There’s a giveaway here. You can buy it here at Amazon.

This week…
I won’t be posting after today on JW. I’ll be checking in with the blogs some, though. Be back soon.

Questions for you, should decide to accept the mission of answering: What has been your favorite age thus far? Did you know that new appliances make different noises than your old ones? Have you ever been injured in a movie theater by a non-threatening relative?

Comments

Glad you enjoyed the new Spiderman. I haven't been injured in a theater so far. As for new appliances, the first time our new fridge dumped ice in the ice maker tray, my wife hit the ceiling.
And I try not to think about age.

Send us some of your rain. It's supposed to heat up in L.A. this coming week, but nothing like you all had. My mother, who is in East Tennessee, said her yard looked like a war zone after the storms.

Favorite age is hard to choose, but 30 was good.

Age: I'm lucky as apparently I've been told I look at least 10 years younger than I actually am.

All my relatives are threatening to be honest. ;0)

My fridge in my flat in Athens isn't as cold as it should be, but my landlady's not a very nice person, plus I move from here on Friday anyway, so I am going to leave it as is.

Why won't you be posting on JW? Will you create another blog? I hope so!
Alex, I might have jumped at the "new" ice maker noise. Might have.

Lee, I wish I could share. So many areas need the rain. My yard is so crunchy it's scary.

Bex, I'm taking this week off from posting.

My favorite age was 25. Appliances do make new noises. Some of the high efficiency ones are so quiet you don't know they're on.

Congrats to Carol! I'm excited to read her book.

happy birthday to your son--and yeah at that age, i would claim it!--yay about your mother daughter book :)
Hi, Emily, I know. New appliances run so smoothly that I check frequently to see if they are still breathing.

Hey, Lynn, I agree about claiming that age. Life just gets better even if the body may not. Did I miss something? Am I writing a mother/daughter book? I could and often threaten to. :)

Exactly...about ice makers. Enjoy your bloggy break. And thank you so much for the posting about IN NAME ONLY here :)
Carol, You're welcome!
To think we had a hosepipe ban a few months ago.
Enjoyed reading your blog. Read about Carol's book exciting for her.

Thanks for the lovely comment on my post, much appreciated.

I'm LOL-ing about the movie. Glad you had a good Fourth, and that it cooled down. It's hot as Hades here...

My movie going experiences have been safe thus far. Every house I've lived in has had the sounds of different possessed appliances. And besides the adding pains of getting older, the last few years have gotten better and better because of all the new things in my life. I just hope I don;t fall apart too soon. Oops, I answered your questions backwards. :)
Hi Teresa .. glad the appliances fitted and work .. despite the ghostly noises they're making - as long as they don't drip - all will be well.

Swollen fingers - oh oh .. not nice - still you kept that up in the cinema too .. hope it goes down.

Happy birthday son - sounds like he's at the right age ... 35 - 45 or so .. and I too am told I look and act much younger - if only I could work out how to roll back the years!

You may with absolute pleasure have some of our rain - it's free to collect!!

Cheers and enjoy your week off .. Hilary

New appliances are so hard to get used to. I'm still not over missing my old stove... *sigh*

Ha ha ha, funny questions. First of all, congrats again, Carol!

What has been your favorite age thus far?

Favourite age? I think that would have to be my late twenties and early thirties.

Did you know that new appliances make different noises than your old ones?

No, I don't think I've had appliances that long before.

Have you ever been injured in a movie theater by a non-threatening relative? This is a no. Don't go to the theatres much.

Yay for Carol! I can't wait to read her book.

You can have some of our rain. Wettest June since records began in Britain, and July is shaping up to be the same.

It always takes me some time to get to know anything new in my life, especially the mechanical. Not only do new appliances sound different, they smell different, too.

Glad you like the movie. I've never been injured, but more than once have nearly pulled Walt's arm out of the socket when something on the screen surprises me.

When I moved into my current house, I thought someone was knocking on the garage door. So, I checked. No one was there. Then, I heard it again. I checked. No one. I stood there and realized it was the fridge. I checked. No mysterious creatures were inside. It's probably air in the water line.
Hope you had a good break!
I also enjoyed an unplanned absence from Bloggyland for the last 10 days or so...

I think that the 30's were great... though I might say the same about the 40's once I'm done with them... who knows!
It's difficult to say, because these days, 30 is the new 20 and 40 is the new 30, so you've got to shave a decade off your existing age and work it out from there... LOL!
