Sunday Reflection: Heart Matters

Betty, who is an awesome photographer and blogs at Cut and Dry, posted about research she'd read on  how and where mothers carry their babies on their bodies.
Until I read Betty’s post, I hadn’t thought much about how mother’s hold their babies close to their hearts. Obviously, heart matters to mothers even if we're not always aware of it.
Heart matters to God, too.
“… For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord  looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.Colossians 3:1-4 (NIV)
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22 (NIV)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters….” Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’Matthew 22: 37-39 (NIV)
