Sunday Reflection: On Prayer
“It is only when the whole heart is gripped with the
passion of prayer that the life-giving fire descends, for none but the earnest
man gets access to the ear of God: and that is the purpose of prayer.” E.M.
Bounds
I feel closest to God when I pray. I believe in
prayer not only for better results in circumstances, but also for changing—me.
Even in the seasons of my unbelief, when I feel alone and think that God does not
hear my cries; I know that praying to Him will change my doubt.
“ Immediately
the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’” Mark
9:24 (NIV)
At this point in life, if I know anything about
myself and my relationship with my Heavenly Father, I know that when I'm entertaining my weakest opinions, feeling empty and cannot hold my head up, this is my time
to pray.
Through our weakness, God’s power shines because we are too powerless to
resist. It’s too bad we don’t allow God’s power to be made perfect in our strengths
as well as weakness. I’m convinced that if we did, we would be living in a better world.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power
is made perfect in weakness.”

Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
“Then He spoke a parable to them, that men
always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: ‘There
was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man.
Now there was a widow
in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my
adversary.’ And
he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do
not fear God nor regard man,
yet because this widow troubles me I
will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”
Then the Lord said, ‘Hear
what the unjust judge said.
And shall God not avenge His own elect
who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?
I tell you that He will
avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really
find faith on the earth?’” Luke
18:1-8 (NKJV)
Losing heart? Pray. Afraid? Pray. Doubting? Pray. Feeling
empty? This is the moment to pray.
Blessings,
Teresa
