Sunday Reflection: The Truth of the Matter

I saw a video once where a little boy was told by his mother not to eat the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies until they had cooled. His mother left the room, and when she returned, she saw that her little boy had chocolate smeared on his face and mouth. She pointed her video camera at him and asked him if had eaten any of the cookies. The little boy vehemently denied doing so. Of course, the evidence told a different story.

Although I’m totally convinced there are people who cannot handle hearing the truth, there is a definite freedom associated with being truthful. Telling the truth may be painful, but holding onto a lie is a huge burden.
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV)

Being “real” isn’t an easy thing to do in our world. Often fake seems to be more desirable. But God desires, in our relationship with Him, that we be true and authentic.
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 (NIV)

God loves all of his people, but the truth of the matter is, God is drawn to the truth tellers over the lie bearers because it's in His nature to be true.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

Blessings on your day!

He is true and thus we need to be true.

The truth can be hard to hear, that's for sure.....I do try to be truthful esp. w/ the people I love and sometimes it's hard b/c you don't know how to say it so they don't get hurt. Still though, I'm really not the person who will tell someone what they want to hear if I don't agree w/ something & they've asked my opinion. On the other hand I won't offer my opinion unless i'm asked.

The truth is sometimes hard to tell and even harder to hear. Inspiring post and a reminder truth should be told, no matter. Hope you're having a wonderful day.

But with kids lying they don't actually expect to get away with it. Adults yeah, that is a whole other story.

Funny how kids are often born liars and some never grow out of it. In this world of lies and white lies, the truth is refreshing, if at times scary. Good post Teresa.

many kids lie because they are afraid the truth will disappoint their parents.
