HARVEST HOME

As a reminder, I'm participating in the A-Z April Blogging Challenge. I am featuring my favorite books or stories and their first and last lines.

H is for:

HARVEST HOME by Thomas Tryon

I really, really, really liked this book. It’s been years since I read it last, but I still remember it to be a thriller and full of surprises.

First Line: “I awakened that morning to birdsong.”

End Line: “The invisible voice continued.”

OH my goodness, I only realized when I typed out the lines, how they relate to each other, but that's all I will say about that. A movie came out in 1978 that was made from HARVEST HOME titled The Dark Secret of Harvest Home with Bette Davis, David Ackroyd, Rosanna Arquette and many others. Great movie! Scary movie!

Before you read it, you need to know that, as Adrian Monk would say, “They had sex affairs.” Yes, there is some sexual and violent content. I'm sure it would be tame by today's standards.

HARVEST HOME is now on my TBR pile to read again--like I need another book on that dang pile.

Hi Teresa .. what a great sounding book - I love Bette Davis, but she scared the daylights out of me most of the time.

Fascinating review you've given us .. especially linking the first and last sentence in the book .. now I'd better go see and get it .. but when I'll get to read it - I don't know! Cheers Hilary
Never heard of the book. Might have to seek out the movie though.

I've never heard of it. But I know Dan Akroyd clams he lived in a Haunted House and that was the inspiration for Ghostbusters.

I haven't read it - but you have tempted me. Not a hard thing to do admittedly.
And yes, my unread piles are already frighteningly large.

LOVE your theme for this years #Challenge. I am an addicted reader and believe that it is true...if you don't read well, you can't write well. I've visiting other writers and couldn't resist a journaling woman. Love your 1st and last line.

Really neat A-Z theme! I love the idea of quoting the first and last lines. It's interesting how doing something as simple as that can open up a whole lot of meaning in a novel.
