UNDER THE DOME by Stephen King

The first Stephen King book I ever read was CARRIE. I watched the movie after it came out. It still haunts me and that's a lot of years of haunting. The longest Stephen King book I’ve read is UNDER THE DOME, and I confess, I still have the last few chapters to read. There is a TV series UNDER THE DOME due to return this summer. However, I watched several hours of it last year, and it’s not holding my attention.

This, my blogger friends, is how the talented writer, Stephen King, opens and closes a book.

First Line: From two thousand feet, where Claudette Sanders was taking a flying lesson, the town of Chester’s Mill gleamed in the morning light like something freshly made and just set down.

End Line: Pity was not love, Barbie reflected…but if you were a child, giving clothes to someone who was naked had to be a step in the right direction. 

It’s important that you know, I’ve watched more movies made from Stephen King’s books than I've read.

You know, I love his books, but they scare me to death. I had to stop reading them after I had kids...it's like something snapped in my brain and I couldn't read them! I think because of "It" and "Stand by Me" and the stories where kids were endangered. Still, a riveting, very talented author who spellbinds me when I read him!

The only 2 of his books I really liked were The Shining and Dolores Claiborne, b/c those are the only ones where he did a short epilogue to tell you what happened to the characters afterwards. All his other books, he builds things up for 800 pages and kills everyone off in the last 10. It annoys me. I remember even in 'Stand by me' when Gordy tells them the story of Lard Ass and the pie eating contest, one of the kids asks what happened to Lard Ass afterwards and Gordie said, 'I don't know' and the kid goes, 'Oh...well great story, except for the ending'. Classic King.

The book is waaaaay better than the show. The show sucks as they are dragging it out a ton.

I've only read one of his books, so I know I've seen far more movies.
I'd heard the television series wasn't that good.

He is an amazing writer with descriptions. I've read a few shorts of his. Carrie was the only book of his I read and that was for an assignment in a college class I took. His stuff is too scary and he builts tension very well. I'm not a horror fan. I just can't read them and I've watched very few horror films. Hubs is and there have a few of his books that even he was jumpy after reading them. I did see Carrie to make make comparisons and my husband wated to see it.

I read “The Stand”, loved it. I bought “Under the Dome”, started it and only got in a chapter or two. I think I might go back to it, now.

I tried to read this book, but I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I love the show on TV, though. Apparently I'm the only one who likes the show. haha

Salem's Lot scared me. DUMA KEY is my favorite of his books -- still horror and terror in it, but also the story of two friends holding one another together, It was the friendship that makes it one of his best, :-)

I used to read a lot of Stephen King but his books started to sound the same after a while. I did read Under the Dome when it first came out. I actually find the show better than the book which isn't how things usually are.

Hi Teresa .. I haven't read any of his works or seen many, if any, of his films .. so it's interesting to read the comments and to 'hear' about the tv programme Under the Dome

I read Under the Dome shortly after it was released. It was during a prolonged bout with illness when I was in bed most of the time so it was a good time to read a long book like this. I really liked it a lot though in some ways the ending was a bit silly, but it was philosophically interesting as well.

I wanted to watch the TV show but never got to for some reason. Maybe I can go back and take it all in on Netflix or something.

Under the Dome is one S.K. book I've wanted to read for a long time. I went through a S.K.-reading binge from high school through college.

I'm the same, especially when you consider the big movies made from his short stories. But I loved the ones I've read - Misery, Bag of Bones and a few more. On Writing is a classic too!

Oh, me, too. I've only read one short story collection. The one with the Shawshank Redemption, which had a different title, I think. He's a little too creepy to me, but brilliant. I also read his book On Writing, which is great.
