Death by SCARF

I am participating in the Blogging from A-Z Challenge again this year. What is this mysterious blogging challenge you ask? Arlee Bird from Tossing it Out came up with this fantastic idea where bloggers post using consecutive letters of the alphabet for 26 days in April. It grew in numbers, and Arlee now has many helpers. S= Death by SCARF

In 1927, American dancer, Isadora Duncan wore a pretty scarf around her neck while riding in a sports car. The scarf wound around the wheel of the car and pulled her from it, strangling the twenty-two year old woman to death. More here. 

Scarves make me sweat, so I wear them only in the coldest weather. Good thing since I used to drive a convertible.

That had to be one of those really long scarves. I'm only fond of scarves in the cold months too.

Hi Teresa - I was always worried when I had my long scarf - I'd get it caught somewhere ... but I think I only worried after someone told me about Isadora Duncan ...

Scary stuff! And another one that seems it could happen to me. I always have sweaters and coats and things hanging out the door because I won't gather everything up before I close the car door.

That's how she died? I had no idea. She was very popular in San Francisco having been born there. She was in a mural on the ceiling of the office bldg I worked at on Market Street, with other SF icons.

I heard about this some time ago. Its one of those things if you saw it on a soap opera, you would say it was too far fetched. It just doesn't sound believable. It is such a tragedy that that could happen to someone

Your story reminds me of something that happened at our local grocery store. There was a young woman cashier there who always wore these beautiful flowing scarves over her store-issued smock until one day, the corner of a particularly drapey one was sucked into the belt that carries groceries to the register. Luckily, a quick-thinking customer turned off the belt.

I am too lazy, unfashionable and claustrophobic to mess with scarves in any sort of weather. :)
