Sunday Reflection: Mountains and Valleys

The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing—to reach the Mountain, to find the place where all beauty came from. --C. S. Lewis

Going back to work after a long summer vacation changes things. My freedom-rhythm skips beats. My peace threatens to leave, but someone has to work to pay for Millie's many expenses.

Life is a series of mountains and valleys where we experience both joy and sorrow, good times and bad.

Our mountains seem like high places where we feel bigger and bolder where life is fairer and hope fills our soul.

When we are shoved from the mountaintop and end up in a valley, life is harder and we feel visited again by the "shadows of death" experience. Fear tends to reign at its first challenge, and good times fade from our memory. In the valley, we are pinned between the rock and the hard place and want a rescue.

Hang on.

The mountain might be our resting place. The valley might be a tester of our faith in God where we don't allow ourselves to see the good side of bad things happening.

Embrace the valleys because in them we learn so much. We grow.

My prayer for you (and me) is that you will know that God dwells both in the high places and the low places of life. God is where broken hearts dwell but also where life seems at its best. At this moment, God is fighting a battle for you behind the scenes or in your face. Either way, He is there.

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." Psalm 121

Blessings!
Teresa

He is beside you no matter where we are - we never do it alone.
