IWSG for September: AI

Who can trust something with only two letters to its name and is a know it all?

Well… lots of people.

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group is the creation of science fiction writer Alex J. Cavanaugh. You can find his books here. He started the IWSG, “To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!” The IWSG’s website offers resources and a support group. Join the blog hop the first Wednesday of each month here.

September’s awesome co-hosts are: Kim Lajevardi, Natalie Aguirre, Nancy Gideon, and Diedre Knight!

Optional questions:  What are your thoughts on using AI, such as GPChat, Raptor, and others with your writing? Would you use it for research, story bible, or creating outlines\beats?

AI…hum. I’ve tried to ignore it, thinking it would go away if I didn’t use it.

Literally, I had not used ChatGPT until this post. My first experience using it went well. Not that we’re best friends or anything.

This is what I asked ChatGPT: Why should I use AI? (A brilliant question, right?)

“Using AI can bring significant advantages, depending on your goals, needs, and industry. Here's a breakdown of why you might want to use AI.”

There’s more to it, but in a nutshell, AI gave me these reasons.

  • Efficiency & Automation
  • Better Decision-Making
  • Competitive Advantage
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • 24/7 Availability
  • Risk Reduction

Like any tool, on its own it’s neither good or bad, it's how we use it that will give it meaning.

I will chat with AI again.

T.
