Once a Life

Once a husband,
Once a daughter,
Once a life.

Once with money,
Once with none,
No boundaries.

Dumpsters, soup lines,
The call of hunger,
Empty stomachs.

A wounded spirit,
Life less,
Empty hearts.

Those who stare,
Those who care,
Pass on by.

Today the same,
As tomorrow,
As yesterday.

Survival,
Sunrises,
Sunsets,
Nothing special.

Another day.

Alleys,
Sidewalks,
Cardboard boxes,
Danger.

Homeless.

The photograph and your verse speak well to each other. It's interesting how a whole life can be pared down effectively to these words.
u summarized all life in an excellent way awesome poetry
Excellent poetry. Makes one stop and think. Thanks for sharing.

Have a blessed day!!!
So sad, but true. It's so easy to forget that most of the homeless we pass were once part of a family. Thanks for your reminder.

Mystery Writing is Murder
Joanne- That's a good point- paring down to a few words- and still telling it.

Tugce and Nezzy- Thanks much. I don't write much poetry but when it comes to me, I make sure I jot it down.

Elizabeth- I guess sometimes one has to be inspired by sad circumstances.
