Once Upon a Time

...there were two little girls who were three years old when they met and became best friends and...

their friendship went on and on....

They looked nothing alike except maybe their bad taste in hair barrettes.

One girl had curly reddish hair and a freckled fair skin color.

Blue eyes.

The other girl had straight dark hair and a lovely olive skin color.

Brown eyes.

They couldn't  have been anymore opposite in appearance, but...

they shared so many likes and dislikes.

They even liked the same boys, but never competed.

They went everywhere together. They did every...thing together.

They could even finish each other's sentences...like twins do.

So it wasn't a surprise when someone said years later they thought we were sisters because where one went the other followed.

Her parents were my parents.

My parents were her parents.

You know how the story goes...couldn't have been any closer...not if we had tried.

We were twins of the heart.
Best Friends.

Oh to be 18 again.  Ok probably not. We don't stay in touch anymore.  Such is life.

Isn't it funny how that happens? I had a best friend like that, growing up. I wonder if we'd still be good friends if we lived in the same town...

Elizabeth, The really sad thing is we do live in the same town. We just don't socialize any longer.

It's funny how that happens. The same here, I had a few childhood best, best friends. But we were destined to be friends only for that time of our lives. We tend to think of friendships as lifelong, but sometimes they just suit a certain era ...

It's sad that we grow apart from those we had so much fun with. I guess that's part of life where they help shape you and you them so that the rest of your life you do have a connection to each other without speaking.

Maybe it's time to drop a note and say, "I've been thinking of you and hope you're well."

Even if you've lost touch, you can find her on the internet.

There are some lost relationships in my life as well. Some for the better, and others for reasons I really cannot pinpoint.

I thank God that He always sends a friend I need in every season of life.

You're not on Facebook yet? Seriously, people I haven't thought about in years have found me there. A friend I used to know in Scotland to whom I haven't spoken in 16 years found me the other day. Whoa.

If you're not on it yet, you might want to give it a shot. It's surprising how you can reconnect.

I wonder why we let these friendships go? Life gets in the way, our interests change... sad. I may pick up the phone now and make that call I've been thinking about, thanks!

We grow old and grow apart cause we change so much. I think from 18 up so much happens to us. But it is sad that around that, you couldn't have stayed connected. I'm glad I moved from the area cause I hate for that to be the case.

It's seems to be the way of the world. I didn't grow up with the same friend, but I am still in contact with my best friend from high school. We don't see each other much, but when we do it's like we saw each other yesterday.

I just have to remember when she's around my present-day companions that she knows ALL my embarrassing episodes from the teenage years. This makes me wary.

I hope she sees this post! Now I'm wanting to go see if I can find some of my long lost friends.
Another note on this subject. We live in the same town. We know where each other lives. Early on in our adult years we did buddy around some. We have grown apart and that's ok. We are different people now, as someone said. We had a great time during our school years. Such is life.
I have NO friends from my girlhood, but my sister is still friends with her three friends to this day. I don't know what that says about me1

Oh Teresa, I'm sorry. I know it's hard to look back on those wonderful smiles and miss those carefree, fun days with your best friend. Where did that kinship go? I wonder the same thing about a couple early on friends too. But I guess in life, sometimes we just grow apart. She was in your life at that time for a reason. You may never know why. So we move on and make new friends with someone at church or work and start to try and fill that little hole in your heart. Great post.

Maybe you should just check on her.
Oh, Mom, you're so beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen these pictures.

Maybe you should check on her, as Gail said. She's on your mind, in your heart, a call away...

Beautiful tribute to friendship. I await the sequel. :-)

It is sad that friendships fade.
Hi JW .. I've usually kept up with friends .. in fact always - something I'm good at. My best friend born six months after me, was completely different (though someone commented on her photo - how pretty I was as a child ..I'm sure I was too!!). We always seemed to slot back in and in fact I'm now doing it with her daughter .. as sadly Renny died. She lived a very different life to me .. arty, India, arts and crafts, she travelled to north Africa, India, lived in Spain - I followed the traditional route! We'd enjoy ourselves now too .. lots of happy memories of playing together as kids .. I stayed with her when my brothers were born, as did my elder brother too - when the youngest of us turned up.

You do look alike ..
