When it rains it pours… and I mean it.

First of all, rain has poured here for days and there is much flooding. A friend of mine posted a photo of her horse ranch being socked in by flooding. First time—ever, she said.. So much so that they cannot get out of their long driveway.  She wasn’t sure Cowgirl (rescued doggy) would find a place to do her business, in the flooded yard.

I had a harrowing night two nights ago. Rain poured, THEN it stormed. The wind howled. The winds were fierce. Water thrashed against my house, then…water started dripping from my fake ceiling beams in my bedroom. Whaaaat? There was nothing I could do but wait it out—oh and put a drip pan on the floor. At least it didn't pour. The shingles on my house are relatively new so I’m not sure what happened. It’s probably that one vulnerable area at the end of the house. It hasn’t happened since.

Then I went out to the screened in breezeway to see if Kitty Kiki was doing ok in the garage next to it. I heard a crash. With the lightning showing the way, I saw that the table on the deck, with umbrella, had been tossed halfway off the deck. The next morning, one leg on the table was broken off and the center of the table was ripped from the pressure of the umbrella thrashing about, I guess. It was an old patio table (hoping to reuse it) that I had repainted a wonderful light green to use with a new umbrella and new chairs. Oh well, first world problems as Dr. Daughter says.

When I saw that a man had escaped a jail (or something) in Arkansas, I wasn’t worried because who in the world would head to Missouri to escape? Apparently he did. With ties to our area, he and his girlfriend stole a pickup (I think). They were believed to be near or in my town, around the Niangua River and in Long Lane. It’s not that easy to hide in my county because...everybody knows you. Everyone is nosy vigilant.

Next week I’m back to work full time. I’m a little depressed about returning to work after a month and a half off. I know, I know, how sad that I don’t get much of a vacation. J Perhaps if I were the love child of Stephen King and say J.K. Rowling, my writing would be in demand. Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Speaking of writing, I'm working on a short story for a contest. Its title is The House in the Middle of the Field. And I'm beta reading one of Hart Johnson's books. It's a cool story and making me a bit paranoid. A sign of great writing. Write Right?

Is anyone else raining and pouring or snoring? Whose love child would you like to be?  Who (reading this) would not want to be on a full-time vacation?

Yes! This has been the wettest summer ever! We had to put gravel in our side yard so that we can get the mower back there (or else the mower gets stuck in the mud!) But not as stormy as you've seen...that's scary, Teresa! I'm sorry about your patio furniture and the leaking. You hate to think you have to chain your patio furniture down when it storms!

Hope the going back to work is a smooth transition for you! Maybe it will go better than expected (fingers crossed!)
After World War Z came out, I said I'd like for Mel Brooks to adopt me so my books could become movies as well.
Really sorry about your table. Hope it can be fixed. Same with the leaky beam.
And with those nutbags on the loose, stay safe.

Many who were suffering from lack of water are now experiencing the opposite.

Can't you turn that table over and use it for a sled this winter???

Stay safe and on high ground.

PS: Raining. No one's child as in non-existence.

Oh, I LOVE a good storm, but that leaking in the house stinks! And VERY good thing you didn't know about that escapee during the storm! Talk about the stuff of nightmares! (it would make a good book, though)

Florida has gotten quite a bit of rain. Strange for July, too. Our rainy months are usually August and September. So I'm wondering what that might mean for those two months. Its the sign of the times, I guess.

Hugs and chocolate,
Shelly
Hi Teresa .. that storm sounds horrendous .. and water leaks - they're never found ...

Sorry about the running repairs to your first world problem! Love that comment from Dr daughter!

I've no idea whose daughter I'd like to be .. it's a thought process .. but not now!!

Cheers and am glad you're safe .. and sorry about the back to work bit - can understand your feelings ... Hilary

Were you worried about tornadoes with that storm? I hope you get the leak resolved b/f the next rain! As for full time vacation, I haven't worked in over 2 years. My guy loves having a stay at home wife. If I can take care of everything, see my friends, do errands, etc during the week, I can devote my every waking moment to spending time w/ him the 2 days a week he's home w/o having to clean and grocery shop, etc.
It IS a wet summer. last year, here, we in a severe drought. Nothing normal for MO.
Your books would make awesome movies.
Ha ha. True before I blink we'll have a snowstorm.
Well you're in Dr. Seuss mode, for sure. Who needs money right? Oh wait--me.
Me too. I normally sleep through thunder and rain. True about the escapee. I don't think he had dove through the tiny window yet.
April and May are ours. It is a sign of the times.
I think you're right about leaks. They are rarely found until they become holes. :)
I think the problem is that I was the proverbial stay at home mom for over 10 years. I LOVED being domestic--having most of the work done before the hubby came home.

I've been seeing on the weather that your area has been really getting the rains. We haven't had nearly as much here in central MO. Sorry about your leaky roof and the broken table! We had problems back in the spring with water getting in our basement.

Hmmm...I'll have to think about whose love child I'd like to be. Someone very rich. Ha!

I would've been a little freaked out knowing or even suspecting an escaped prisoner may be in my area. I wish you could pipe some of your excess water down our way. We're parched. Enjoy the rest of your time off!

Fortunately I was lucky with a weather while I was in Eastbourne (where I met Hilary) Thanks for your comment on my blog ! I am on "eternal" holidays, since I am retired, lol ! First it was hard to get used to this life without any obligations, now I enjoy it !
We're still getting rained on, but my problems with it are minimal. Poor Waynesville. Missing people. The death of a child--so far.
They are still on the run. Broke into a couple of houses. Stole a truck and a gun. And in the town I live near.
Hi, Gattina, Welcome here! I look forward to the eternal holiday (retirement). I just hope I will be a good boss of myself. :)

We've had crazy rain too! Had to do a few repairs to the basement wall. It's been nuts these past few weeks. The city flash flooded a couple of times, but our area remained okay thankfully!

When I lived in Kentucky, we had more than our fair share of storms like that...scary stuff, for sure!

Sounds like you've had a pretty exciting few days and best of luck going back to work.

I'd settle for just a week of vacation time :)

This is my first visit here all summer, and I see I've missed some great stories. What a storm you had. You always make me laugh even as I'm feeling bad for what you're going through. As I get ready to go back to work next week, I can really relate to what you're feeling. Summer is so hard to let go of.

sorry about all that water!---we had a little problem with leaking pipes a couple of days after the wedding, thank goodness it was not before----your book title is a great one---and you ask a fascinating question, whose love child--that one is gonna take some thought ;)

Goodness. It's dry as straw here in Eastern Washington, but thunderstorms are in the forecast. Hope the leaks have been repaired. Story title is intriguing.

Please bottle and ship us water. CA hasn't seen rain in months and we're not likely to until February.

I'm a firm believer in vacations after vacations. I'm never ready to return to work after time off. Good luck.
