THE GRAVEYARD BOOK

As a reminder, I’m participating in the A-Z April Blogging Challenge this month with a theme of first and last lines of favorite books.  

G is for:

THE GRAVEYARD BOOK by Neil Gaiman

Honestly, I have two other favorite books before TGB, but I really like this book and Neil Gaiman as a writer. 

First Line: “There was a hand in the darkness and it held a knife.”

End Line: “But between now and then, there was Life; and Bod walked into it with his eyes and his heart wide open.”


I love Neil’s first line in this book, and the first chapter will not disappoint you.

What are my two favorite books (probably of all time)? Thank you for asking. Yes, you did. I heard you! GONE WITH THE WIND, by Margaret Mitchell, will always own my heart--first. GRAPES OF WRATH, by John Steinbeck, is the understudy.

My ten-year-old son just read this... it was in the kid section of Amazon. He said he really liked it. I may have to get it a read!

I loved that book! Neil Gaiman definitely has a unique way of storytelling and I really enjoy him.

I love Steinbeck's nonfiction account of his truck trip across America of 1960, TRAVELS WITH CHARLIE. I listen to the audio book of it often. :-) And I truly enjoyed Mr. Gaiman's THE GRAVEYARD BOOK.

I've only read Gaiman's "Ocean at the End of the Lane." Thanks for the recommendation!

I love "GWTW" and "Grapes of Wrath," too. :)

Hi Teresa .. I've not read any of them .. though Gaiman keeps popping up - I have got one of his here .. Neverwhere .. and I see it was televised for a BBC mini series ... better get to read it.

My sister and I were just discussing the Graveyard Book. She says it is the perfect book. I also enjoyed it. So haunting.

That is a brilliant first line. I haven't read this particular book by Neil Gaiman, but I do share your love of the Grapes of Wraith. And of John Steinbeck in general.

You know, the only Gaiman book I've read is his collaboration with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens. I'll have to remedy that. Also not read your two classics, but I have read East of Eden, which is something!

I've never read Gaiman - guess I need to! Love everything John Steinbeck wrote. I discovered Grapes of Wrath in a book case filled with book that came along when my mom married my step dad. I remember devouring all the books on those shelves, only finding a few I didn't like. A reader will read almost anything, I've learned. Thanks for bringing to mind some old classics that I love.
