Sunday Reflection: A Menu of Fear and Fret

Although things have radically changed in a good way at work, it’s been my reaction for a few years to be fearful when summoned to our administration office. The other day was no exception. In three hours, I would meet with a boss. I wasn’t actually summoned, because I’d ask to see her, but then she replied that she needed to talk to me, too.
After a half hour of treating myself to a menu of fear and fret, I prayed this from Philippians 4:5-7.  “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
I kid you not, within seconds peace sheltered me. My stomach untangle its knots. However, I’ve not always had such a fast recovery. Depending on the encounter or crisis, I’ve had to repeat this prayer a few times before I allowed God to wrestle my anxiety to the ground. God said his word does not come back void, and I believe it.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.
As usual, my worrisome and pending catastrophe had absolutely no merit.
Blessings,
Teresa

That's awesome you knew what you needed to do to soothe yourself during these times.

Glad it could help you out! Things are usually never as bad as we make them out.
Usually they don't! We worry about nothing. But as God says, no fear. Maintain only faith.

What a relief! It's always horrible whenever the boss says, 'I need to talk to you'. My immediate response is always, 'Oh no...what did I do wrong? How can I fix it? OMG I'm so sorry.' In 12 years w/ my boss who I knew would never fire me (and sank into a deep depression when I left), that was always my response, and he would always chuckle.

Sometimes it seems we just can't help ourselves and worry. Glad you were able to relax and there was no need for worry in the first place.

I tend to worry too and reading scripture or praying does help more than we realize and we should do more often! Glad all is well!
